IMO… Russia will not agree a ceasefire today because that would imply acceptance of current frontlines as the demarcation. That would would in effect be a defeat for Russia.
Russia will agree a ceasefire only if Ukraine withdraws from the contested regions and the ceasefire lines are the borders of the regions. So either the West withdraws voluntarily or Russia will continue its grinding until Ukraine is exhausted and defeated and can be pushed out of the contested regions. The choice is for the West to make… withdraw voluntarily or be defeated on the battlefield. That is how I read what Lavrov said.
