The recent Battle for Soledar was very similar to the last stages Battle of Ilovaisk for Ukrainian militants. The decisive defeat of the AFU was swift and chaotic, with heavy casualties (despite the massive training program by NATO). It is also noteworthy as well that the operatives from PMC Wagner took a fortified industrial town from a conventional army with alacrity (albeit with mutual support from Russian regulars). I don't think a private military company has defeated a conventional state army in 500 years, very atypical.

Reality Check Soledar War Day 325: Ukrainian official claims Soledar still controlled but "situation difficult"

Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of Donetsk region military administration, has claimed that the Ukrainian military still controls the town of Soledar — although some Ukrainian units in the area have said they are only on the town's outskirts.
Speaking on Ukrainian television, Kyrylenko said that: "The enemy is suffering heavy losses, covering its way with the bodies of Wagner [fighters] and regular army soldiers." He added that "the situation is difficult but controlled. The military command is taking all necessary measures to stabilize the situation."
Kyrylenko said seven civilians had been evacuated from the town on Friday, but 550 remained in the town, which is without power and where few buildings remain undamaged. Kyrylenko insisted that "the humanitarian situation in the city is under control. There is a food supply and shelters for local residents."
Russia said Friday its forces had taken the small town of Soledar in eastern Ukraine following weeks of fierce fighting, in what would be Moscow’s first notable victory in months, although Ukraine denied the claim.
Russian media said Friday that dozens of residents of Soledar had left for Russian-controlled parts of Donetsk.
The capture of Soledar would represent a symbolic if not an especially strategic win for Putin after a long string of military setbacks dating back to last summer. But it does not suggest a significant capitulation of Ukrainian forces, nor a substantial change to the overall complexion of the war.
The west needs to prepare for the imenent collapse of Russia. It is struggling to maintain its territories in Ukraine as it is spending a tremendous amount of resources to maintain its foothold. The collapse of Russia as a failed state would result in different factions of the society gangs , mobs , political affiliation trying to wrest control of its resources. At the moment the different ethnic minorities are held together by a dictator with control of a large complex supported by loyal backers who also have vested interest driven by greed ,power and reach corruption. The western think thanks predict Russian collapse in the next ten years.
Why does the special operation take so long? Listing to this channel it always sounds as if Russia is always on the winning and Ukraine always on the loosing side.
The coming stagnation of the Russian economy could determine Putin's survival and not the war in Ukraine. If the Russian army fails to gain more territories in Ukraine the Russians will be more uneasy about the staggering collapse of the economy. This is the main reason Putin must mobilize 2 million more Russian citizens into the Russia Army to keep the donbask region in Russian territory. It is highly doubtful that Putin can continue keeping Crimea firmly in his hands. There is no viable economic reward for keeping it therefore it's not an urgency. For this reason the Wagner geoup will not be coming down there to rescue the Russians in Crimea

The collapse of Russia will be very chaotic because there will be many regions that have been suppressed like the ethnic minorities to want to be independent. The war in ukraine will be the catalyst for the further cessation of other territories. One could argue that Russia will definitely become smaller and other territories will seek to join other countries that borders Russia. In fact… China is looking to annex Russian territories once it sees that Russia's military along it's border is being thinned because of the war in Ukraine. NATO and the rest of the G19 countries are trying to drain the Russian army militarily and economically. Putin will certainly put up quiet a struggle to maintain control of Russia. But Putin is officially diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and knows that his end is near. There is no absolute reason for him to quit now. It would mean his imenent overthrow.

"Zelenskyy is losing contact with reality". He never really got into it. Ukraine seems to be a wonderland of weirdness. From Azovstal sublevels to Chernobyl Zone to anachronistic Galician Nationalism to DoD biolabs. And the hapless EU seriously thinks that it all belongs to the EU. All of it. And the US thinks it's a disposable round in a recoilless.
I hear Wagner's are decimated in the attack in Soledar. The sad thing is that the self-proclaimed heroes are Soigu and Gerasimov. Prigozyn's army same like Kadyrov's was used, destroyed, and abandoned by Kremlin prostitutes and cowards. Let's go Tzar Putin to the bitter end, and gamble overvalued Russian lives in Ukraine. Without Wagner's criminals and drug addicts, Bakhmut can never fall.

Soledar is taken, the strategic circles that did this should applaud themselves only after the city is secured – beforehand is ALWAYS an effect of the over zealous & flawed – it means your diligence may be less in efforts. The conquering, once concluded, then deals directly with the need for defending a taken objective.

I have to say, I very much like Putin's management style. He runs a tight ship, and that is the primary reason that Russia was able to weather the storm of Western sanctions and economic warfare. Leaders across the globe should be taking note.
