I disagree about the spirit animal thing. Having studied in shamanic traditions it annoys me when people use it colloquially. But I'm tolerant – I don't need to correct anyone.
Do Stanford suggest alternate phrases for “tripe” and “codswallop”??
Wouldn't it be easier if they just resort to "x which must not be named" for everything? At least we'll have some ready Harry Potter response for that…..
"Long time, no see." and "No can do."
They are upset that we took something that was originally mockery of non English speaking people and turned into a normal informal English lexicon used by everyone? I would imagine this has made life better for non English native speakers because given native English speakers are now using lax slang that in a way mimics non native speakers, the non native speakers will be less likely to be mocked for standing out with incorrect grammar.
"LatinX"….they suggest it, but overwhelmingly, that term is loathed by Latino's and Latina's. It's about "Progressives" and control, not looking out for anyone….other than themselves
Laowai is the neoMarxist gringo
All while you deal with inflation, inflationary spending, crime spikes, a wide open border, etc
Walk-in appointments are Karma's way of getting you to the universe your belong more quickly – the Mandela or Butterfly effect. You can also get there by simply standing by when you witness tyranny in action – becoming a stand-in for the you that did the right thing in the right universe while you continued to ignore the law of karma
Just imagine a hospital ship and mechanized land vehicles (transport and and road building) required to allow one student who is a quadriplegic the ability to attend and actively participate in the amazon studies. Absurd? The Administrative State and compliance with their laws have no limit to absurdity
The narcissist tyranny is insisting everyone else support your fantasy image of yourself – the neomarxist disappointed emperor's new clothes syndrome
I always preferred strumpet to prostitute. 'US Citizen' has been dropped because it excludes residents (legal and illegal) who are not citizens.
So glad your critique also includes a healthy dose of caricature of these 'helpful suggestions'. Thank you!
The seldom spoken truth is that diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, affirmative action, etc. all mean putting less qualified and less intelligent people into positions of authority by discriminating against more competent and intelligent people. Hence, the increasing stupidity of policies emerging from academia, health executives, public health agencies, government agencies of all kinds, and corporations.
Spite, as mother described it, was spending your life biting your own neck.
For people who are contending that it's counterproductive for individuals to find their meaning through perceived victimhood, these individuals sure do seem to find a lot of their meaning through their perceived victimhood.
Well some believe that the term "Gringo" originated in U.S. soldiers during the Mexican war, singing the popular song "Green Grow The Lilacs". Could be.
South Park blasted the attack on the word 'retarded'.
I am offended by people who are younger than myself, for reasons too numerous to be enumerated.
god i hope southpark will make an episode out of this
"walk in" and "walk up" are not welcome – metaphor is out of favor, next thing you know – literature is dead
By a funny coincidence I was reading 1984 just this week. And I had to stop because it was hitting so close to home.
The intellectual dark web continues to sense make, alone, good job! American heroes ❤
