NATO is not a defensive pact. It is meant to destroy Russia and China by starting wars
Sweden was sort of neutral during WW2. The iron ore Sweden sold to Germany, and were very well paid for, was used by the Germans to build arms to kill allied soldiers. Sweden learnt a very important lesson, in that arms industry is closely linked to the economy. The US also learnt this in WW2.

If a nation want to join NATO, why should the US reject such a wish? Because they promised the Soviet Union (which is no longer a thing fortunately) to not expand? NATO is not terrorists but member states of NATO sometimes go too far (the US being the worst offender for sure).
Swedes should be angry. NATO has been used to “offshore” many production methods in the name of
“Emissions”. This is what happens to USA. Send pollution and production to China, then turn around and blame China for USA problems.
