People should start talking about the free world again.
The thing about slavery, and I mean all contemporary (back then) slavery, to me the most important (?) thing is WHYYYYY did slavery stop?? I have always had the idea that it wasn't JUST or ONLY the ideological ramblings of a few christians or people, it must have been a multi factor time coalescent or collapsing onto itself at one time… maybe throw in the industrial revolution, the increased production capacity of the world where having slaves was MORE expensive than buying machines… I don't have the full picture only bits and pieces.. But, WHYYYY did slavery stop in reality??
Who had more individual rights, the average Mesopotamian under Hammurabi, or the average serf under King John?
It is the individual's freedom and ability to create wealth that motivates progress and peace, once the nation becomes wealthy that individuals freedom starts getting throttled, and so the cycle goes.

Ok hold on @17:45 the idea that Great Britain policed the seas to end slave trade as a moral project was in part true, but it was also about economics. Competition with slavery produced product was difficult also one might also think about the desire to weaken the American economic engine as these nations were now rivals. So if we are going to say things need to be understood on balance and with nuance then that is a part of the picture of policing the the seas at that time…..

The west has done some goid things and some pretty bad things.
I had no idea that the Magna Carta was not taught in schools. I didn't get my education resently or in the UK or the USA.
Since the end of the cold war, communist elites have been illegally infiltrating the West's democratic institutions and manipulating both the public and government into abandoning their animosity to left-wing values. They rigged elections and coerced people to vote for anti-democratic values and teachings. Our parents still shove cold war-era Western values down our throats throughout our childhoods, but it isn't stopping our young generations from having conscious thoughts of abandoning libertarian democracy and being in favor of the same regulations on nonconforming opinion that countries like China and Russia still have. Modern Russia is nothing like the cold war-era West like LINO pundits idealize it as, and it's not surprising if Peru's pro-Castillo protestors would be waving Russian flags instead of American flags.
Ukraine and Indonesia are some of the only few countries to have blanket bans on anything sympathetic to communism, and Ukraine's Euromaidan protestors and activists all have the same exact messages and preachings of the cold war West.

The west were far too slow to influence the internet information. Authoritarian state’s censorship protects their narrative, but they have full access to the minds of the youth. You only need to spend 10 minutes on your child’s tiktok to clearly see that the algorithm is extremely anti-western values and aimed at making our children feel powerless, depressed, dissatisfied and distrustful of democracy. We’ve done nothing to stop that. Our values of freedom has even prevented us from protecting against that subversion, because censorship over the internet has traditionally been a form of control and authoritarianism, which is intrinsically against our freedom values.
The trouble is, how do we correct that amount of brainwashing?
Those 'Barbarian' Germans turned out to be the most civilised people in the history of the world (more civilised than the Chinese). Their historical treatment of women as witnessed in all the Northern European nations – all the way up to North America and Australia today – is a good example of this. The Southern European cultures and Middle Eastern cultures still do not treat women well by comparison.
It seems that 'the West' – the civilization which uniquely created the modern world – has the seeds of its own destruction embedded into it.

Funny that Marc argues the west is all about disruption and individual entrepreneurial energy, but then argues only the centralized big universities can truly make a difference and enlighten thought has to be brought back there. A society that works behind democratic institutions to change the Supreme Court through undemocratic ways in a direction not supported by the majority of Americans. This guy is truely a wolf in sheep's skin. At the end he said he is optimistic because the individual ideas will bubble up. That is not the reason for the west's strenght. It is the result of it's laws, equal rights, judicial system, free speach and its democratic ideas, institutions, and provesses. All of which the Federalist Society, which he supports wants to dismantle. The federalist society which put 5 judges in the SCOTUS. A court that ruled agains workers right, women's right, against environmental protection, and for corporations. Against the democratic majority will of the ppl.

western civilisation is in very serious if not terminal decline, this is becoming more and more obvious. liberalism is failing, and needs to go, i staunchly dispute this presuppostion that 'the enlightment' is/was so wonderful. and its not 'cultural changes' its culture and tradition being destroyed. in what possible universe can such an effeminate society do anything other than hopelessly and spectacularly fail, and rather quickly at that.
