As a Army vet of 8 years during the last years of the Cold War and of the Gulf War, I do understand but unfortunately many that served during the Clinton administration to current do not as they find out later.

Looking at all these comments below praising this guy, I'm amazed that he hasn't been sanctified already. Like many others it seems, Mr Putin appreciates the Colonel's appraisals so much that he's one of the few American commentators allowed on Russian TV channels. military personne, military industrial lobbyists are not politicians or you don't have a democracy . the usa military shpuld have been able to convince the usa politicians to honor their past agreements and honor their diplomatic words. to the contrary they did not. the usa has an agreement made in 1990's at the reunification of Germany to not move NATO toward Russia. they did not keep their agreement threatening Russia's security and so they defend their security as would the usa in the same circumstances. sometimes like in Iraq the usa gas used national security as an excuse for military invasion.
